Competitive Swimming

 

United States Swimming (USS)
USS is the national governing body for the sport of swimming.  Participants in the Marlins youth  swim programs must be members of this organization. Membership is renewed in the fall of each year.  Membership provides limited, co-benefit accident and liability insurance for swimmers participating in supervised workouts and swim meets. 
Southern California Swimming (SCS)
SCS is the administrative division of United States Swimming that governs our geographic area.  Within SCS there are four subdivisions or sections:  Coastal, Eastern, Olympic and Orange.  The SVA Marlins are part of the Orange Section.
Time standards
Time standards and age determine the type of meet in which a swimmer may participate. Age group standards are, in successively faster levels: C, B, A, AA, AAA, SCSRT (SCS Reportable Time) and NRT (National Reportable Time). Times meeting the SCSRT and NRT standards are submitted to the Southern California and National swimming bodies for ranking. Senior standards are, in successively faster levels: Senior Development, Senior Q, Senior Sectional, US Open, Nationals and Olympic Trials
